Remember the Milk
Its been a week I have been trying 'Remember the milk' and I liked it a lot.
As the name suggests, this is nothing but a online tool that helps you 'remember buying the milk'. It is an award winning online tool for managing day today tasks. Be it personal or work related.
These are the options I currently have to do the same work. So why another one?
1. Lotus Notes TO DO, Calendar, Reminder feature
2. Outlook Calendar, Tasks, Notes feature
3. Gmail calendar, Tasks.
4. A Notebook pen and paper, Post-It notes on desk.
Out of all these I found myself consistently using is Notebook pen paper / Post-it Notes. Because when it comes to noting down of tasks we all need simplicity. We don't need to deviate from what we currently do but stil note down the important task which got reminded ourself as a flash in our mind. Nothing gives us the luxury of simplicity like pen and paper.
Then why Remember the milk?
We know, even though Pen/Paper is the most simple one, it doesn't give much required feature of reminding. After all noting down tasks is all about not missing something. Whats the point if the tool doesn't remind you to buy the milk.
Simplicity: There is only a single text box to fill to add a task. So hit a bookmarked URL type a task. The back bone feature which makes Remember the milk the most simple of all the available tools is the 'smart add' feature. Smart add feature is nothing but adding a task something like this.
Buy milk tomorrow (add a task with due date tomorrow)
Buy milk friday (add a task with due date this friday)
Take out trash on Wednesday *weekly (add a repeating task starting from this wednesday)
Smart add is the backbone feature that distinguish "Remember the milk" from other tools which makes this the simplest and efficient I have found ever. So be familiar with feature before start using Remember the milk. Without using smart add this is no good than other tools we have

Try google remember the milk and see how popular it is. :-)
Cons:
I have GPS now, so I don't want to remember the route I go. I have google search now, I don't want to remember any of the general knowledge now. I have google toolbar now. I don't want to remember how much is 16*12 is. I have gmail contacts now, so I don't want to remember my friends phone number. I have remember the milk now. I dont' want to remember buying the milk.
But are we going to become ourself a dumb by slowly stopping to remember anything and start relying on internet?
My view:
By freeing up the memory required to remember trivial things, we are actually creating more space in our brain for creative thinking. After all less amount of data in RAM means more processing power right? :)

Cool topic Jeen but I have a different opinion on this one though.
My Picks
- Adding Locations to Tasks (Home, Office Etc.) Format:- 'Your Task' 'Date' '@Location' Example Buy Milk Today @Home
- Simplicity
- Intelligent in picking dates and adding recurring tasks (Some Examples - Next Sunday, 1st Saturday of Every Month,Automatic Miss Spell Handling Like Tommorow)
- Adding notes to tasks
