My Philadelphia Diary

Good To Know: This is not about my entire Philadelphia trip history. So there is a slight chance of this article being less boring.

Little Bit Background: I planned to spend my 2007 Christmas time with my brother-in-law's sister who lives in Philadelphia. And this is all about a small incident happened while I was there.

Christmas Eve; I am excited. After coming to US, I have not participated on any church masses in Malayalam. Today I am gonna see the entire Christmas celebrations in my Mother Tongue.

I am a bad planner for Vacations. Needless to say I didn't pack any formal dress in my Travel Bag. For going church on Christmas eve, the only option I had to wear is a sports Tshirt and a jean. I know people will be coming in full formals to the church. But I had no choice.

I felt so embarrassed in the church to be in this casual outlook. Everyone else where either wearing Coat/Shirt-Tie or Saree/Chudidhar. I was not able to concentrate anything during the mass. Instead I was searching for someone who is in Tshirt and Jeans but I realized the fact that I am the only one in church with this weird dress for the occasion.

After the mass, When I was trying to put my shoes back on, something interesting happened. A beautiful girl approached me and told.

"Hey! you look nice in this dress." Initially I thought she was trying to tease me. But she continued

"I wish I could have wore my favorite T-Shirt and Jean, but my mom didn't allow me to wear those and forced me to wear this boring chudidhar. At least you had the courage to wear what you liked instead of blindly following the American way of dress to the occasions."
